Parliament approves Amb. Joseph C. Blell as NATCOM Chairman

SIERRA LEONE PARLIAMENT APPROVES AMBASSADOR JOSEPH C. BLELL AS NATCOM CHAIRMAN/COMMISSIONER

The Sierra Leone House of Parliament on Tuesday 10th November 2020 unanimously approved presidential nominee Ambassador Joseph C. Blell as the Chairman/Commissioner of the Board of the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM).

During the debate leading to the approval and confirmation, Hon. Hassan Sesay (Opposition Whip), said Ambassador Joseph C. Blell is a selfless man and a man of everybody who is trustworthy working with people. He continued to say that Ambassador Blell cuts across all cadres of people and has showed his ability to manage people with his eminent management skills.

Hon. Boston Munda (Chairman, Information and Communications Committee) described, Ambassador Blell as a man who is passionate about performance. He noted that, he had no doubt in his mind that Ambassador Blell will work with the committee on Information and Communications to continue to bring successes in the telecommunications sector.

Hon. Paramount Chief P.C Bai Kurr Kanagboro Sanka III informed the house about the patriotic efforts put in by Ambassador Blell during our nation’s conflict years, in order to bring lasting peace to Sierra Leone. He continued to say that Ambassador Joseph C. Blell is honest, sincere and simple to work with and his appointment is a laudable one.

Deputy Minority Leader of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Hon. Ibrahim Ben-Kargbo said that Ambassador Blell is a dedicated man and has a wealth of experience which he will take to NATCOM for the good of the country.

Leader of the opposition, Hon. Chernoh R.M. Bah said Ambassador Blell is a good listener, he is a proud Sierra Leonean and a Sierra Leonean we should all be proud of. He expressed happiness to join others to approve him.

Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma said he believes in Ambassador Blell’s delivery, as he has served diligently before and wished him all the best as he continues to work for the ordinary man.

The Speaker of parliament, Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu congratulated Ambassador Joseph C. Blell and described him as a man of great repute, great experience and great accomplishment. He urged him to deliver at NATCOM based on the confidence and trust of His Excellency the President endorsed by the House of Parliament.

Ambassador Joseph C. Blell is an established military personnel, and an esteemed Entrepreneur. He has been President of the African Center for Strategic Studies, Director and Shareholder of SLICO; Regional Director, Canadian University Service Overseas (CUSO) based in Kano and later Kaduna in Northern Nigeria. He was the team manager of the National Team, Leone Stars when Leone Stars qualified for the African Nations Cup in 1994 in Tunisia. He has served as Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Nigeria and accredited to Ghana, Benin, Togo, Equatorial Guinea and Republic of Congo. He was also accredited to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) from 1993 to 2002. He has served as Deputy Minister of Defense from 2002 to 2007.

Ambassador Joe C. Blell will come to NATCOM with a wealth of experience and will add value to the work of the Commission.
